A businesswoman at Kwahu Atibie in the Eastern Region of Ghana has expressed deep anger and frustration after floodwaters invaded her shop following heavy rainfall in the area.
According to the businesswoman, the flooding occurred because a lots of the gutters around the community were heavily choked or blocked with refuse dumped by some of the near by residents, preventing the free flow of water during the raining period.
As the rain intensified, water quickly overflowed from the blocked drains and entered nearby shops and homes, destroying properties and causing panic among other residents.
The affected woman, who could not hide her disappointment, blamed the situation on the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutters by some residents.
She stated that several warnings issued by traditional authorities had been ignored prior to the unfortunate incident.
She further appealed to government authorities to implement measures aimed at curbing the activities of some nearby residents in order to prevent future disasters in the community.
Videos and photos circulating online showed muddy water spreading across the road and overflowing into her shop as she struggled to channel it into the main gutter.

The incident has once again sparked concerns over poor waste disposal practices and highlighted the need for regular desilting and cleaning of gutters to help prevent flooding in towns and communities.
